This is a stainless steel ring used in a electronical equipment that we developed for a US customer, the raw material is Stainless steel grade 304, and the finish required is polished mirror finish.
We purchased the raw material as stainless steel tube, manufacture it by CNC turning to form the ring shape, and then mill the cut-out on the CNC machining center. During the whole process of CNC turning and CNC milling, the precision is pretty critical, and especially for this skinny ring part, it is easily to get deformed during the turning or milling process, so we have to hold it tight on the machine table, and did the turning and milling job really slowly, requiring low feeding frequency, for the sole purpose of minimizing the deformation during the manufacturing process.
Then came the last step of surface treatment, for this particular stainless ring, the finish has to be quite smooth shiny to ensure its function, so as per our discussion with our customer, we planned to polish the surface manually to make it as mirror finish. Again the challenge is how to avoid any deformation during the manual polishing? In order to solve this problem, our manufacturing team designed and developed a fixture to hold the part, and then do the polishing against the wheel, then Perfectly Done!
