What are commonly used surface treatment in sheet metal fabrication

It is known to all that some sheet metal material are not corrosion-resistant, thus effective surface treatment will be very essential and critical. Normally speaking, there are many ways to achieve desirable surface in sheet metal fabrication, including powder coating (also called painting), anodization, pad printing (also called silk screening),brushed, sandblasting etc.

1. Powder Coating (Painting)

It is most regularly used and the most cost effective ways to prevent the surface of raw material from corrosion. The color of powder coating various and not limited to white, black... customized color is available when the quantity is bigger. Here we made a custom aluminum box (server box actually), it is made of aluminum, but since it will be used outdoor, so we painted to white for better looking and increase the corrosion resistance of the material.

2. Sandblasting

In custom box fabrication, we also usually use sandblasting to achieve a desirable surface appearance.

the main function is to remove the dirt and rust on the surface of the workpiece, thus increase the adhesion.

This custom aluminum plate is sandblasted after anodization, which looks very good, without any scratches.

3. Anodization

In sheet metal fabrication, we usually use natural anodization and black anodization to increase the corrosion resistance of the workpiece and also make the workpiece harder, normally 8-10um. Following

is the sample of anodization, Various colors are acceptable.
